Ukrainian President Deprived Himself of Suit For More Than 2 Years

Even when addressing the US Congress, UK, and EU Parliaments, or meeting with world leaders at G7 or NATO summits, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is consistently seen in a simple T-shirt.

For over two years now, Zelenskyy has eschewed formal suits, a stark contrast to his attire when he first took office in 2019. However, the Russian invasion in February 2022 drastically changed his wardrobe. The conflict, ignited by Ukraine’s aspirations to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), transformed the comedian-turned-president into a leader primarily seen in military camouflage and casual T-shirts.

Since then, whether in America, Asia, or Europe, Zelenskyy’s attire remains steadfastly informal. He remains indifferent to the formal suits of his peers, focusing solely on leading his nation through war. The gravity of the situation has seemingly replaced his once-humorous demeanor with a persistent seriousness, as every night since the invasion has been a battle strategy session.

Zelenskyy’s speeches now predominantly seek support and ammunition for Ukraine. In stark contrast, his adversary, Russian President Vladimir Putin, continues to appear well-suited at official events. Despite the ongoing war, Putin managed to organize and win an election.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, whose mandate has expired, has been unable to conduct an election due to the war, highlighting the profound impact of the conflict on his presidency and his nation.
