Union Movement Sportive football club of Loum, UMS, announced its withdrawal from the Elite One Championship over alleged ‘inhumane’ treatment by the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT.

In a communique signed February 10, the Club denounced FECAFOOT’s non-payment of subsidies, which are needed to pay players minimum wages designed by the Federation.

“The non-payment of the balance of the 2021-2022 season subsidy and the non-payment of the support by FECAFOOT to UMS for the 2022-2023 season, have led to serious crises,” the release stated.

These crises, according to executives of UMS, include the refusal to train themselves, total indiscipline and the requirement to pay salaries during an inactive period.

“It’s unheard of in the Professional Championship since we’ve been in Elite,” the Club went on.

The Club added that their passion for the development of football has suddenly faded away because of FECAFOOT’s “unfulfilled appointments.

The executives equally noted that the players are on strike because they believe the Club have received money from FECAFOOT, but has not paid them.

Rather, this is not the case, the Club bemoans.

The president of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o Fils, is yet to react to UMS’ concerns.

Last year, Eto’o embarked on revolutionizing local football by obliging Clubs to pay workers salaries, register them for insurance and afford decent hotels for them during matches.
