UN replies Minister Atanga Nji over Humanitarian crisis claims

The office of the coordination of Humanitarian Assistance of the United Nations has contradicted Cameroon’s minister of territorial administration, Paul Atanga Nji, on the statistics of the humanitarian impact of the war in the North west and south west regions of Cameroon.

The UN body in a release Monday morning said 922 thousand persons have been internally displaced by the Conflict, whereas minister Atanga Nji in a press conference Sunday December 29th, placed the the number of internally displaced persons at less than 250 thousand.

Paul Atanga Nji said 150 thousand persons have been displaced within the North West and South West regions, while 6 to 9 thousands have been displaced to neighboring regions like the West, Littoral, Center and Adamawa regions.

The UN says over 4 million persons are in need in the North west and south west regions.

It its latest statistics, the United Nations office for the coordination of humanitarian assistance said 229 thousand anglophones live as refugees in neighboring countries.

2.3 million are targeted by the humanitarian aid program, out of the 4.3 million persons in need. The UN also reveals that just 41% of humanitarian coverage has been made in the regions.

Paul Atanga Nji on December 29th, while announcing the deployment of 100 truck load of food from president Biya to IDPs, contrastingly said there was no food crisis in the North West and South West Regions .
