Over 100 youths arrested in Buea, freed hours after

Over 100 young people arrested in Muea, Buea earlier today have been released.

Their arrest is said to have come after security forces got a tip off of an impending attack by Ambazonian fighters.

According to Barrister Bacham Emmanuel following the tip off, the forces immediately carried out a raid, rounding up several boys in the area.

Thanks to his intervention and that of other legal luminaries the barrister adds, all arrested in the raid were released without condition.

Today’s arrests comes after a similar activity by security forces last Monday in other parts of Buea, an act that gas been largely condemned by the population and observers.

While security forces claim their raids are meant to protect the population, others hold that it is a scheme to extort money from locals who often have to pay huge sums to be released.

Coming after a period of relative calm in Buea, the arrests are becoming more frequent on Mondays, a day that hardly witnesses much economic activity owing to ghost town operations called for as a form of protest.

Administrative and municipal authorities in Buea like other parts of the affected Anglophone regions of Cameroon have for several months now employed different measures to combat the ghost town operations to no avail.
