The President of the Centre for Strategy and Security for the Sahel has implored the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, NCPBM, to play a lead role in finding a peace solution to the separatist conflict in Cameroon’s North West and South West regions.
Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, who is on a UN mandated mission to evaluate and follow up activities of the UN Central Africa Regional Office met with the Head of the Commission, Peter Mafany Musonge in Yaounde on Friday.
The envoy, who led a five man delegation said the international community is disturbed by the developments in the country’s English speaking regions . And it is incumbent on the State to find a concrete solution to the conflict.
To Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, the Bilingualism and Multiculturalism Commission is a solid platform on which the peace process could be built.
“I consider this institution very useful in the fight against conflicts, in other words, preparing people to live together, listen to each other and respect cultures,” he told reporters.
Before going to the Commission, Ould-Abdallah revealed that he had been discussing with diplomats, a peaceful way out of the Anglophone crisis and how the Musonge Commission can facilitate the process. The official however did not say whether he will visit the restive regions.
The European Ambassador to Cameroon also held talks with the Commission President, reiterating that, the body should play an important role in the dialogue announced by the Head of state, Paul Biya.
Hans-Peter Shadeck told the press, “We met with authorities on Wednesday and the dialogue issue was raised, and it is important we know what the Bilingualism is doing towards the subject.
