The Resident Representative of UN Women in Cameroon, Marie Pierre Ranky Chaudpin, paid a courtesy visit to the North West Regional Assembly (NWRA) in order to strengthen women’s participation in regional governance. The meeting, received by President Prof. Fru Angwafo III, highlights the increasing recognition of the crucial role women play in development.
The conversations between Raky Chaudpin and Prof. Fru Angwafo III focused on highlighting the significant role of women in political processes, decision-making, and peacebuilding. Raky highlighted the crucial role of women in promoting economic growth and emphasised the need for their participation in all levels of governance. She declared that women are the foundation of sustainable progress and peace.
Prof. Fru Angwafo III emphasised the NWRA’s dedication to promoting women’s empowerment and leadership. He made a commitment to prioritise the inclusion of women in key positions within the assembly’s initiatives and decision-making processes. He confidently stated that the NWRA is committed to advocating for policies that support gender equality and encourage women’s involvement in all areas of regional governance.
This visit is a major milestone in the partnership between UN Women and the North West Regional Assembly. The focus of both parties is to establish an environment that recognises and appreciates the valuable contributions of women in politics and community development.
The visit coincides with a period when cultural practices are hindering women’s participation, thus impacting their involvement in the country’s politics.
