Security officials say they have apprehended the perpetrator of last week’s burglary at the Directorate General of Taxation in Yaounde.
The burglar said to be an ex-convict was presented today in Yaoundé where he reportedly carried out a simulation of what the robbery looked like.
The robbery was the second in what became a string of high-level burglaries in the country. While the news of the burglar’s arrest is being appreciated on national media and by authorities, others have sought to ask deeper questions about the incident.
Given the nature of the newly-constructed building, the nature of the break-in, it is believed, would have hardly been possible given that it was said to be done by one person only.
Shortly after the attack, it was reported that the burglar(s) broke into 20 offices and carted away the sum of over 380,000 FCFA.
Many are beginning to question how one man broke into a secure and guarded structure close to a gendarmerie station and a firefighter brigade in the heart of town, swept into 20 offices and left unnoticed.
