Less than 10 days to legislative election rerun in 10 constituencies in the North West and 1 constituency in the South West region, the security situation in the regions remains unstable.
On March 8th 2020, a bomb explosion left a soldier dead and several others wounded. Earlier, the Ngarbuh massacre on the 14th of February shocked the world with the death of over 35 including pregnant women and children.
Sporadic attacks and random shooting by security forces as that decried by the population of Bamenda 2 continues ahead of the rerun.
The unstable security situation before the election rerun billed for March 22nd 2020 remains the same as that which necessitated the cancellation of elections in parts of the region by the constitutional council.
To ensure calm, the minister of territorial administration is presiding over a security meeting in Bamenda. The intention of minister Paul Atanga Nji is to ensure peace before, during and after election in the North west.
To the Cameroon Peoples Party, government should call for a ceasefire for a real dialogue to take place. Failure to do so, many commentators say, threats from the minister of territorial administration will not yield expected fruits of peace.
