University of Bamenda calls on Paul Tasong to incorporate the university in the reconstruction plan

Officials of The University of Bamenda have called on the government to rapidly construct the Bambui-Bambili road which has been described as a major source of insecurity for students and lecturers who are often subjected to kidnappings.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Teaching, Prof Suh Cheo Emmanuel presented the poor state of the road to the Minister Delegate in the ministry of the economy, planning, and regional development, Paul Tasong who visited the university community to explain the government 2020-2030 development plan.

Professor Suh Cheo Emmanuel beckons the minister to take back the infrastructural needs of UBa and integrate them into the national development plan especially the reconstruction plan of the North West and southwest regions.

“We desire that the Bamenda-Bambili road should give the top priority and we pass that plea to the state through the minister”, Prof. Suh Cheo said.

Minister Paul Tasong requested that the university should tailor its educational programs to enable the government to attain its 2020-2030 economic development plan which centers on greater industrialization, a limit on imports, and a job-oriented educational system.

The strategic development plan has key considerations such as;

– In giving out public contracts, you should make sure that 60% of the contract should be given to local companies

– Finish all underway projects before moving to next

– Bring onboard private sector to finance projects

– Have land reforms in the country

– Creating champions of our economy

– Give priority to the maintenance of existing infrastructure before moving to next.

The visit of Minister Paul Tasong to the region ended Wednesday, November 3, 2021.
