A lecturer of the University of Bamenda has spoken against the complete absence of security personnel in Mile 4, Bamenda.
This lecturer who chose anonymity testifies to have been kidnapped by the gunmen and released after he paid ransom, and all this without any alarm or intervention by security forces present in the town.
“I was in my house on Tuesday when five armed guys broke into my house and carried me to their hideout. They forced my family to send them money before I could be released,” he recounted.
“Soon after I was released,” he continued, “Today as I rushed to school for a resit examination, two other guys stopped me just around the Mile 4 brigade asking me for support. I had to tell them their friend had already visited me the day before and collected everything I had.”
Such occurrences have become very common in the neighborhood, with many people, most especially teachers and students being prime targets of extortion. We have equally been informed that most of the students and teachers have made it a habit of not returning home when it gets too late.
