The University of Buea (UB) commenced its two-day graduation ceremony today, December 19, marking the culmination of academic journeys for 4,961 students.

On the first day of the ceremony, the university is conferring degrees upon graduate and postgraduate students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; the College of Technology, the Faculty of Laws and Political Science, and the Faculty of Science.

This broad spectrum of disciplines underscores the institution’s commitment to providing a comprehensive education that spans various professional domains.

Prof Horace Ngomo Manga, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea, expressed the institution’s dedication to professionalizing its programs.

The strategic shift aims to equip graduates not only with academic knowledge but also with practical skills that empower them to become job creators rather than mere job seekers.

This emphasis on practical applicability aligns with the evolving needs of the job market and positions the University of Buea as a leader in producing well-rounded and industry-ready graduates.

With a sizable student population of 33,000, the University of Buea plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape of the country.

The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the institution’s commitment to fostering an environment that encourages innovation and creativity among its students.

Cautioning the graduates to not adhere to the pressures of social life, Prof Manga called on them to be exemplary in society by using social media responsibly and to shun devious means of obtaining wealth.

This academic year, the university admitted over 10,000 students across its 11 establishments, comprising one school, two colleges, and eight faculties.

The 25th convocation ceremony of the University of Buea adds a significant milestone to its rich history.

Over the years, the institution has not only expanded its academic offerings but also continued to prioritize excellence in education.

The University’s pro-chancellor, Prof Edward Ako Oben, who is representing the Minister of Higher Education at the occasion, also emphasized that the students should remain exemplary.

He mentioned that the degrees they have been awarded are not merely formal symbols of their education, but will enable them to open more career doors.

He also noted that UB is expanding its infrastructure to contain its growing student population.
