Students of the department of Journalism and Mass communication (JMC) in the University of Buea, Cameroon have been urged to be innovative and take advantage of the benefits of the digital age.

Kum Leonard, an Alumnus of the department currently working as Editor-in Chief of ‘My Media Prime’ was speaking during the 28th edition of the Association of Student Journalists of the University of Buea (ASJUB) Open Day this Wednesday.

Kum told aspiring journalists to “exploit social media in order to showcase their skills.”

He equally cautioned them to avoid the temptation of placinh money above the integrity of their profession.

This annual event organised by the department often features veterans in the journalism profession, many of whom are its Alumni.

This year’s edition was chaired by the Head of JMC department, Dr. Lizzie Wantchami.

Some of the attendees this year were Charlie Ndi Chia (Publisher of The Rambler), Benyella Njeko ( Former JMC lecturer), Funge Diffang (Current JMC Lecturer).

The Journalism and Mass Communication Department, JMC was founded in 1993 by late Prof. Enoh Tanjong.

Today, it is arguably the largest trainer of journalists and media professionals in Cameroon.
