The pioneer batch of the Higher Teachers Training College of Buea has been orientated with proper assurance of quality teaching. This was recently at the University of Buea Campus.

The university told the students that they will receive modern-day training, which will help them mold brains for Cameroon’s society.

This is the first time they are meeting following the publication of the list of successful candidates after the concur exams.

The HTTC was created last year via a presidential decree. A few months later, President Paul Biya appointed Lucy Mande Ayamba as the pioneer director.

Now, all is set for the students to commence learning.

After the orientation, UB put out a statement online saying that the pioneer students will be equipped with 21st-century skills and knowledge to effectively manage a classroom and provide quality education to learners.

Through the training, UB believes the student teachers will be able to use transformative teaching techniques to help students to develop.

According to UB, the first batch is made up of 645 student-teachers.

Of that number, 220 students are in Cycle One and 425 are in Cycle Two.

“The students were also given different talks on the rights, responsibilities, and obligations of the students. They were introduced to the online registration platforms, student welfare, and the challenges of student life.” UB said via its official Facebook page.

No direct recruitment

Despite being admitted via a government concur exam, the student will not gain direct recruitment into the public service.

Before 2023, the government has been integrating directly those who graduate from HTTC.

Now, the government says recruitment of teachers will be based on needs.

However, the HTTC Buea comes to boost the institutions training teachers like the one in Kumba and Mile 17.
