US congresswoman Bass Weeps For Cameroonian Migrants

US Congresswoman, Hon. Karen Bass has revealed that several migrants some of whom are from Cameroon are facing immense challenges in seeking asylum in her country. Talking on MSNBC channel, the politician serving as the U.S. Representative for California’s 37th congressional district since 2013 said they had met with a group of African migrants from Cameroon and other nations who spoke to them about the challenges they are facing.

The thousands of Africans in Mexico, she said, had been “invisible” in the asylum process as the system doesn’t favor them.
“The general border crisis is really a humanitarian crisis but unfortunately, this administration (the Trump administration) is addressing it as if it is a law enforcement problem,” Bass said.

“The trauma these people have gone through,” she went on “is really just shameful and because these immigrants don’t speak Spanish, they are essentially stateless because there’s no way for them to really get in line to participate in the asylum process”.

Subsequently, “they are being discriminated against horribly.”

Over the last months it should be recalled, several persons have reportedly died trying to get into the US through unorthodox means, some of whom have been Cameroonians. Despite the challenges, many still insist on going, with some saying they are escaping the conflict in Anglophone Cameroon.
