The embassies of the United States, the United Kingdom, and France in Cameroon have condemned the recent bomb attack that killed at least one and injured dozens in Nkambe, North West.
The US embassy said there is no justification for the attack that left over 50 people injured, most of them women and schoolchildren who had gathered to celebrate National Youth Day on February 11.
“There is absolutely no justification for an attack against civilians or children in particular. We extend our condolences to the families of those killed and wish everyone who was injured a speedy recovery,” the American Embassy wrote.
The British Embassy insisted that civilians should not be a target of the warring parties in the English-speaking regions. Both government forces and Ambazonia separatist fighters have been accused multiple times of gross abuses of civilians since the armed conflict started in 2017.
The U.S. Embassy condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the horrific February 11 attack in Nkambe, Northwest Region, that killed at least one person and left dozens more seriously injured. There is absolutely no justification for an attack against civilians, or children in particular. We extend our condolences to the families of those killed and wish everyone who was injured a speedy recovery.
“Appalled by the attack in #Nkambe, North-West Region, on February 11.
Civilians should never be a target. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families,” the British Embassy wrote.
The French Embassy condemned the attack “with the greatest severity” and offered words of condolence to the victims and their loved ones.
Separatists claimed responsibility for the attack, which was one of numerous attacks they have orchestrated to deter people from engaging in official ceremonies.
