Users raise complaints as compulsory wearing of face masks goes into effect

Respecting a measure of wearing a face mask while in public places in Cameroon from Monday April 13th 2020 is on but with several challenges.

To Mathew, a vendor in Douala, “wearing a face mask inconveniences me at all levels. When I have it on am tempted to touch my face frequently either to adjust or to remove it and breath freely for a few minutes before putting it on”.

He regrets that in the process of constantly removing and wearing, he fears that security forces may see him without the mask with corresponding sanctions.

To others, wearing a face mask is not in their culture. They say it obstructs their normal breathing process.

The production of face marks has gained steam in tailoring workshops in towns and cities. Government has equally announced massive production of masks by specialised enterprises that will be sold in affordable prices to Cameroonians.

As a measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Cameroon, government imposed the use of face masks by all people in public places.

The prime minister while announcing seven additional COVID 19 preventive measures including the compulsory wearing of face masks indicated that “systematic sanctions awaits defaulters of the measures “.
