Vaccination phobia soars in Cameroon

The administration of the oral polio vaccines to kids zero to five years in some regions in Cameroon is facing enormous challenges. Launching the vaccination campaign Friday, May 7th, some parents instructed school officials not to permit their kids to be vaccinated.

“I have two kids at government primary school Youpwe in Douala. I was in the school to warn the teachers not to vaccinate my kids,” Ntangha Cyprian attests while holding that anti-polio vaccination is government’s strategy to give COVID-19 vaccine to kids.

To health officials, COVID-19 Vaccine targets people above 18 while polio Vaccination is for kids below five years.

To other parents, Vaccination against polio is necessary. They have either instructed teachers to let their kids take the Vaccination in schools or waiting at home for when mobile Vaccination teams will pass by for their kids to be vaccinated.

Three day anti polio Vaccination campaign opens Friday May 7th to run through May 9th comes at a time some Cameroonians have over the months developed a negative feeling against vaccination following controversial information concerning COVID 19 Vaccine.

Vaccination against polio health officials say will prevent kids from developing incurable diseases. The Vaccination comes months after Cameroon has been declared a polio free country. Despite this status, health government says Vaccination remains necessary.
