Yaoundé hosts Africa’s first international submit against cyber-criminality

The University of Dschang has overseen the hosting of the first ever conference on Cyber-criminality and Cyber-security on the African continent.

The conference which started yesterday is expected to end today May 7, 2021.

The conference organised by the University of Dschang is expected to be centered on three basic agendas, Research for better knowledge, better understanding and of the crime; then equally training executives who will aid in the fighting of these cyber crimes; and finally an exploration of possibilities of opening specialized training courses in fighting cybercrime and maintaining Cybersecurity in the coming years.

Given that the phenomenon of cyber-criminality has been on a continuous increase in Cameroon and in the African continent in general, the stakeholders of this pan-African conference are hoping that the improved solutions gotten from the conference will aid cut down the number of victims who are prone to fall into the hands of cyber-criminals annually.

Within the past 4 years, several big companies as well as government corporations have been victims of this attack.

Between 2015 and 2017, it is reported that approximately 7 public administration websites were under attack. Over 34 government sites too were equally hacked and more than 184 cases of double identities cases reported amongst others.
