Victoria United, commonly known as OPOPO, secured their first home victory in the ongoing MTN Elite One Championship by defeating Fovu of Baham with a commanding 3-0 scoreline at the Limbe Centenary Stadium.

Prior to this triumph, Victoria United had faced challenges on their home turf, with five previous home games resulting in three defeats and two draws for the Limbe-based club.

The breakthrough in today’s game came at the 21st minute, as Ngum Maxwell netted the opening goal, setting the tone for a dominant performance.

The second half witnessed a relentless OPOPO, with Ebua Gilbert scoring at the 56th minute and Nji Richmond adding another goal at the 64th minute.

Notably, this marked Richmond’s 10th goal in the tournament, making him one of the top scorers.

This resounding victory propels OPOPO to 12 points on the unofficial classification table, positioning them just one point behind their formidable opponent, Fovu.

The win follows OPOPO’s earlier success with a 2-1 triumph over Stade Renard of Melong on December 23.

Today’s match marked OPOPO’s seventh clash with Fovu, marking their second recorded victory against the team in the seven meetings.

Fovu, traditionally dominant in previous encounters, has won three games and recorded three draws against Victoria United.

However, today’s performance showcased OPOPO’s determination and resilience on their home ground.

Coach Guy Kamgia, reacting after the game, expressed that OPOPO’s success was not surprising, emphasizing the team’s meticulous preparation.

He stated, “OPOPO is one of the big teams for the professional league in Cameroon. We have a good style of play. When we get to Yaounde against Apejes, we are going to play the same style, hoping that we will have the same luck we had today and the chances of goal.”

This victory marks OPOPO’s last game for the year in the MTN Elite One, setting the stage for an anticipated clash with Apejes of Mfou in January.

The game drew a large crowd, predominantly composed of OPOPO supporters, who left the stadium satisfied with the team’s performance, a stark contrast to previous home games.
