Indomitable Lions goalkeeper, Fabrice Ondoa, has shed light on the harrowing conditions the team faced during their recent World Cup qualifier match against Libya in Benghazi, Libya.

The encounter, which took place on November 21, was part of the qualifying rounds for the upcoming World Cup tournament.

However, what transpired during the match went beyond the realms of competitive football.

It uncovered a series of unsettling incidents that hinted at a possible orchestrated sabotage against the Indomitable Lions.

Speaking exclusively to Le Monde Newspaper, Ondoa revealed the despicable circumstances the team endured in Libya.

“When you experience such a stay, you just want to get out of there quickly. At the airport, we found our luggage on the ground, on the tarmac. I had never experienced such a welcome,” said Ondoa.

The goalkeeper further detailed the alarming incidents, emphasizing the lack of official reaction to the unacceptable treatment.

“Our national anthem was whistled and cut off. I was hit with bottles of water, including one on my head because the protective net was torn. I was treated to monkey cries, and so were my teammates. The lasers were non-stop,” lamented Ondoa.

He highlighted the dangerous nature of the situation, noting that despite reporting the incidents to the fourth official, no action was taken.

Fabrice Ondoa expressed concerns about the potential escalation of hostility had Cameroon emerged victorious.

“I don’t know what would have happened if we had won; the atmosphere was so hostile.”

The encounter ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw, keeping Cameroon at the top of Group D.

According to reports, the unwelcoming environment started at the airport with fake smiles that signaled the difficulties the Cameroonian delegation would face.

However, it was within the confines of their hotel that the Cameroonian delegation truly began to endure a harrowing experience.

The next match between Cameroon and Libya is scheduled for March 24, 2025, and anticipation is already building for how both teams will navigate the heightened tensions and potentially hostile conditions.
