The Hammers started the second session quickly and came near to extending their lead numerous times through Soucek, Paqueta, and Antonio. The referee’s whistle and linesman’s flag also prevented Bowen and Soucek from clinching the match, before United fought for a late equaliser in vain.

Fabianski was forced into action by Rashford, Wan-Bissaka, and Martial, but the Hammers’ defenders held firm to maintain their first-half lead. West Ham’s three enormous points almost certainly secures their status in the Premier League for next season, while United’s top-four race takes a bad turn.

Manchester United have lost eight Premier League away games this season, which is tied for the most in a single season in the league alongside 2021-22 and 2015-16.

West Ham United defeated Manchester United for the first time since September 2019 under Manuel Pellegrini, ending a string of five consecutive league defeats.

Manchester United’s previous eight Premier League defeats have all come away from home; only once in the competition have they had a longer such streak – 10 between February 1995 and October 1996.

“It’s massive. The points it puts us on now put a nice gap between us and the teams at the bottom,” Declan Rice told BT sports.

“There are still three to go but the significance of the three points is massive. We had our eye on this game as one we could win in front of the home fans. Today, the lads gave absolutely everything and it was a thoroughly deserved win,” the West Ham captain furthered.

Manchester United is still fourth in the Premier League, one point clear of fifth-placed Liverpool.

United, on the other hand, have a game in hand and are only two points behind third-placed Newcastle.

West Ham, on the other hand, sit 15th, seven points above the relegation zone.

The Hammers have 37 points, which is generally enough to keep them from dropping off the relegation cliff.
