Traditional rulers in the chiefdom of the Bamendjo Group, in the Bamboutos Division of the West Region, July 30 gathered to perform rituals, evoking peace in the country.
The traditional rulers from different parts of the country were acting on the occasion of the International Day of Kings and Traditional Chiefs celebrated on Saturday, July 30, 2022.
The rituals were characterized by the slaughtering of a goat by two men at the foot of a baobab tree.
The blood of the goat was then shed on a specific spot.
Other concoctions were also poured on the same spot.
Other rites were performed subsequently.
Meanwhile, nearby, griots invited for the occasion continuously sang in local languages.
The ritual, we gathered was aimed at asking the ancestors to work for the end of armed conflicts in Cameroon.
“It’s a ritual that our parents had always performed”, said His Majesty Maurice Tchio.
“We want what is happening in the North West and South West to stop; we want what is happening in the Far North and East to stop. We want peace everywhere in Cameroon”, he continued.
According to the current president of the association of traditional leaders of the West Region, the said ritual is not new.
“In the 1960s, when our country was experiencing a situation similar to the one we are currently experiencing, the same ritual was performed,” he recalled.
“Thereafter, calm returned. It is a ritual that always works,” Said the monarch.
In addition to the said invocations for peace, the Head of the Bamendjo Group equally deplored the character of some Cameroonians.
“We are currently a bit in the doldrums. We copy a lot of what happens elsewhere. However, it does not always have positional values,” said Maurice Tchio.
“We are taking advantage of this day to raise awareness so that we know that the traditional institution is there to preserve positive ancestral values,” he concluded.
