West Region:
Lawyer Arrested, Detained For Defending Suspected Amba Fighter

A lawyer, Ndifonchowara Denis, defending a suspected Amba fighter is reported to have been arrested in the Foumban, Noun division of the West region of Cameroon.

Barrister Ndifonchowara we are told, is being held in detention in Yaoundé for appearing as counsel for a boy accused of being an Amba fighter.

Ndifonchowara, 58, said to be teacher turned lawyer, is reported to have been arrested January 3, 2022. The law firm where the lawyer works, we are told, had assigned Ndifonchowara to defend a client suspected of being a separatist fighter in court.

Mimi Mefo Info gleaned that, on reaching the police station in Foumban, Barrister Ndifonchowara, was found to have a blood relationship with the suspect he had showed up to defend.

Following the discovery, police officers are said to have wasted no time in arresting the lawyer. He is said to have been ferried to Yaounde and is being detained at the Gendarmerie Brigade at Carrefour EMIA.

Sources claim that, those detaining the lawyer have for weeks now been unable to establish any working link between Barrister Ndifonchowara and the suspected Amba boy also in detention.

Reports hold that, Cameroon’s Secretary of State in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Yves Landry Galax Etoga, is expected to see into the matter.

In the meantime, calls have continued to multiple for the unconditional release of Barrister Ndifonchowara Denis.
