On September 12, Cameroon will face off against Burundi in a Group C showdown in Garoua. This match will determine the fate of not only Cameroon but also that of the other two teams in Group C.

This group is one of the three pools where the race for the qualifying spots is still wide open. Namibia is currently leading the group with five points. However, their hopes now rest on the outcome of the match in Cameroon, as they anxiously await the results that could potentially favour their cause.

The current goal difference stands at 6-6 for Namibia, while Burundi has managed to maintain a balanced 4-4 score. Meanwhile, Cameroon has fought hard to secure a 3-3 goal difference. These numbers hold immense significance as they could potentially determine the fate of the Indomitable Lions, who face the risk of elimination if a low-scoring draw occurs. On the other hand, a high-scoring draw could shatter the hopes of the Namibian team. The stage is set for an intense battle as these teams vie for victory.

The Brave Warriors of Namibia, who have only managed to qualify for major tournaments twice in the 21st century, find themselves on the brink of a potential qualification. The fate of their journey hinges on the outcome of an intense battle set to take place in Garoua, the capital of the North Region of Cameroon.

Both Cameroon and Burundi have a golden opportunity to secure their qualification if they emerge victorious in this crucial encounter. The stakes could not be higher as the Brave Warriors of Namibia eagerly await the outcome, hoping for a favourable result that could pave their way to glory.

While a draw could potentially secure Namibia’s spot in the next round, it would be largely dependent on the number of goals scored by both Cameroon and Burundi. If this match ends in a draw, it would create a level playing field for the remaining three teams after Kenya’s unfortunate disqualification. The tension is palpable as these teams hope for a coveted spot in the next stage.

AFCON 2023 – Cote D’Ivoire

The African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament for 2023 has been rescheduled to early 2024 instead of this summer due to weather concerns. Patrice Motsepe, the president of the Confederation of African Football (Caf), acknowledged that the timing was not ideal for European clubs, but it was the only available option.

European players may be required to miss a significant portion of their domestic season in order to represent their respective countries.

Song, the former captain of the Indomitable Lions, assumed the role of Cameroon coach in March 2022. However, his team’s performance at the World Cup, despite being disappointing, as they were eliminated in the group stage, secured its best performance at the World Cup in 20 years. The Lions managed to secure only one point from their first two matches, but nevertheless, redeemed themselves by defeating Brazil, in their final game, becoming only the first African team to achieve this feat.

The 2024 Afcon finals are scheduled to commence on January 13th, coinciding with the day when United will be hosting Tottenham in the Premier League. The final match of the tournament is set to take place on February 11th.

It is not yet clear whether Andre Onana will respond to the call up to the National Team.
