Where are Cameroonian intellectuals? Etah Glen Owona, a Cameroonian PhD Student in South Korea cries out.

In a plea to academics, Etah Glen questions why the former have abandoned their duties to activists and the “uneducated masses”.

“Cameroon will never change if the educated ones keep silent. If you must have noticed, each time an educated Cameroonian come out plain about government’s atrocities, it creates more vibrations, ” he says.

“I am very angry with Cameroonian intellectuals. The ongoing happenings in Cameroon today is because our intellectuals seem to distance themselves from politics. We do not expect bike riders or amba boys or BAS to change Cameroon. We expect to change from our intellectuals. Unfortunately, these same people find the courage of bike riders, amba boys, or BAS to be illiteracy and termed it manipulated. Cameroon will never change if the educated ones keep silent. If you must have noticed, each time an educated Cameroonian come out plain about government’s atrocities, it creates more vibrations compared to when an Amba or BAS launched an attack.

Only when the educated ones take the lead to this revolution, things will never change, and I will always blame this group for failing young Cameroonians. Maurice Kamto needed just one voice from these group of people and things would have been different, but they all distance themselves. There’s this popular saying the educated always use, “I don’t want to dirty myself” – very wrong. I think only when they change this mindset and engaged in politics, then the illiterate of the Atanga Nji, Isa Tchiroma, Ekema, Patrick, Jean De Dieu Momo, and the such like will continue to destroy Cameroon. We need our educated intellectuals to engage and safe Cameroon from this incompetent regime.

We need you Christopher Fomunyoh, Albert G. Zeufack, Vera Songwe, René Awambeng, Célestin Monga, Eric Tchinje, Aimé Lonkeng Ngouana, Emmanuel Noubissie Ngankam, Janvier Litse, and more”.

Which names are missing on the list?
