A woman has been brutalized to near death in Bamenda by her landlord, Martin Abegly.
Nji Vera Anyime was physically attacked, July 11, 2022 by her landlord with his lawyer allegedly watching.
Her telephone and national identity card were siezed and her door locked by the attacker.
She is being hospitalized with a battered face in a health facility around Bamenda — receiving medical care.
The incident occured in Ntarinkon neighborhood, Bamenda, headquarters of the North West region of Cameroon.
It is not known why the landlord went physical given that MMI has it on good authority that the tenant was not owing rents.
“I was first owing him rents. He took me to the police station,” said the victim who added that, “at the police station i paid the rents owed plus some months upfront.”
“When i presented the receipt of payment to him, he said I could not continue to live in his compound,” the tenant went further.
The situation turned soar when the landlord stormed her door with a lawyer and an individual holding a weapon.
“This morning, i heard a Knock on my door. I was still to get up from bed,” Vera told MMI, adding that,” when I opened the door I saw a man who said he was a lawyer and that the landlord wanted to see me.”
“Before I could dress well since I was just waking from bed in my night wears, the landlord pushed the door open and started beating and kicking me,” the tenant narrated.
The landlord, according to the tenant’s testimony in the cause of the beatings said, “I have paid 4million to Amba to come and kill you.”
“I am a lawyer, nothing can happen to my client,” the lawyer was overheard, coaching the landlord to inflict more pain on the tenant.
Backstory
Mimi Mefo Info (MMI) has gathered that the squabble between Abegly and Vera started several months ago.
Vera was taking care of her landlord’s property before things turned sour.
“The landlord dragged her to the police months back, over money she owed him. Vera paid the money plus extra rents. we were shocked he returned yesterday and started hurting her,” narrated our source.
“If the police settled the case and the landlord was not satisfied, why resort to violence,” another source questioned.
Following the landlord’s brutality, the tenant sustained face injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
She is said responding to treatment.
Meanwhile, the landlord is yet to react.
