Women’s Handball: Draws for African Championship to take place today

The draws for the 24th edition of the African Women’s handball Championship is set to take place today.

The competition was originally scheduled to take place in December 2020, but later on got moved to a later date due to covid-19.

It has now been rescheduled to happen from June 10-20 at the Yaoundé Multi-purpose Complex.

The draw will be marked by the visit of the delegation of the African Handball Federation, which will be led by its Guinean born president, Mansourou Aremou. The delegation has been in Cameroon for a few days now and has been inspecting the structures that will be hosting the tournament.

Pending the commencement of the tournament in June, Cameroonian authorities are wrapping up preparations on the sites of the event, especially the setting up of the Yaoundé Gymnasium, which will be used to host trainings. The construction of the gym now underway has been on hold prior to this for over 10 years.

The tournament to be hosted by Cameroon will equally be a historic one as the women’s Handball tournament will for the first time be participated by 12 teams from across the continent.

Amongst the participants of the tournament are favourites, Angola, who have taken the tournament a whooping 13 times.

After the tournament, the top four teams will qualify themselves automatically for the Women’s Handball World Tournament in December of 2023 to be hosted by Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
