The Wum Council in Menchum division, North West region has put in place a plan to tackle unemployment. The project adopted at the council’s Administrative and Management Accounts session seeks to get unemployed youths to engage in food crop production, promote development and consolidate peace.
According to the new plan, the Wum Council will run on a budget of 950million FCFA in 2022. The municipality’s mayor, Dighambong Anthony said, part of the budget is dedicated to fight against unemployment in the area.
Speaking during the session in Wum, the mayor explained that the agricultural project is not only aimed at curbing unemployment but also intended to consolidate peace in the municipality that has remained peaceful despite the sociopolitical crisis.
Mayor Dighambong used the opportunity to announce a Hygiene and Sanitation Contest of the Most clean village of the municipality. The 1st Prize he said, shall be FCFA 100,000, the 2nd Prize FCFA 50,000 and the 3rd Prize FCFA 25,000. Clean up campaigns for the Wum municipality have been slated for every first Wednesday of the month.
The council also intends to tackle development challenges including; building sheds in the Wum Council Main Market, rehabilitating roads, classrooms and the town hall. With the new plan, 2022 promises to be a busy year in the municipality.
