A man in Yaoundé has been arrested and detained for the production and trafficking of counterfeit money in the capital city, Yaounde.
The man was arrested Tuesday at the Elig-Edzoa neighborhood by members of the Nlongkack Gendarmerie who had gone out on patrol.
He was apprehended with a total sum of FCFA 600,000 worth of fake money in his possession. Further investigation from the Gendarmes has proved that the man is part of an organized clique based in Yaoundé and in Douala, which produces fake banknotes and dupes, naive civilians, with.
The arrested individual led the Gendarmerie officers to one of his accomplices in Yaoundé, and he was equally arrested.
Apart from the counterfeit money which was recovered from the criminals, the Gendarmes also retrieved rudimentary weapons like cutlasses from the fraudsters.
