Yaounde: Couple breaks up at wedding ceremony as man settles for polygamy at 11th hour

There was drama at the Yaounde VII Council hall in Nkolbisson on Saturday after a couple failed to agree on the marriage regime to take during their wedding.

In videos trending on social media, the man is seen telling the mayor he wants polygamy, while his wife demands monogamy.

After a back and forth with heated exchanges and interjections from both families present, they decided to part ways.

The Guardian Post newspaper reports that the couple had been living together for a decade and decided to seal their union when the unprecedented occurred.

Quoting a family source, The Guardian Post reports that the couple was given 15 minutes by the presiding Mayor to calm down and discuss their preferred marriage regime, but it failed to yield any fruit.

“… To our greatest surprise, the man called for another lady who immediately came into the courthouse and he got married to her before the watchful eyes of the other woman,” the paper quoted its source as saying.

It however remains uncertain if the newlyweds fulfilled required legal obligations before or after his original wife-to-be denied polygamy.
