An anglophone Cameroonian has reportedly died in detention at the Mimboman Gendarmerie after being tortured. The victim, Fru Vitalis Ngwa was a worker of a Glass and Aluminum Company in Yaoundé called “Caom Alume” in Mimboman, Yaounde.
Fru Vitalis Ngwa, a native of Akum, in the North West Region is said to have been accused of theft by his employer. His relatives say the employer, who name we got as Teku Divine Ngwafor had given particular instructions for the victim to be tortured till he confessed.
They also told Mimi Mefo Info that they were denied complete access to their brother while he was in detention. “…We went there to visit him but we were denied access. We were even asked to return with the food which we had brought for him.” One of the victim’s siblings told us.
Some days after he had been arrested, his sibling reveal that they were called by the employer to come take him to the hospital. “…before we could get there he had died,” the sibling said.
“His employer also told us that we cannot do anything to him given we are not wealthy enough to arrest him…” He said. Relatives of the deceased say they have been left heartbroken by the unfortunate demise of their brother, saying they have only God to fight their battles.
