Gendarmes in Yaounde have arrested four young men who are suspected of killing an 18-year-old student, Zang Abdon, in April.
Gendarmerie investigations have revealed that the Upper Sixth student was stabbed dead on Thursday, 17 April, at the premises of the Yaounde Military Stadium by this gang of young men.
They were arrested by officers of the First Gendarmerie Legion in Yaounde, after several weeks of investigations that were led by Lt Col Guy Herve Mvogo, head of the criminal research unit.
The young Zang was killed under the watch of her sister, Micheline Ngono.
“They came and started harassing us. They took 600 francs from every one of us and searched everybody. When my brother came and asked what happened, they started beating him. They fell on him and severely beat him. He ran away and alerted soldiers on the other side. When they came and started questioning, one of them called my brother by the side and said my brother was his younger one else he would have dealt with him. As he stood listening to him, he removed a knife and stabbed my brother,” she told journalists.
The young boy’s mother, Virginie Etoundi, was inconsolable when the suspects were presented to the family. They brought back memories of her young, promising son who is no more.
His accused killers are aged between 16 to 20, Lt Col Guy Herve said.
The young men are said to be members of an enlarged gang called “Les Microbes” that has been terrorizing people in the Ngoa Ekele neighborhood in Yaounde.
