Residents of Yaounde, the capital city of Cameroon have decried the deplorable hygienic conditions which have plagued the city following the inconsistency of the Hygiene & Sanitation Company (HYSACAM).

According to these residents, garbage is threatening to take over the capital as over the last week, HYSACAM has failed to remove them.

Roads are blocked by garbage, garbage bins are full and heaps of rubbish are found littering major points around the city.

In the Ba’aba neighborhood, the HYSACAM refuse collection truck, has not been seen for at least a week. A difficult situation for the population to live in.

“It is as if HYSACAM no longer exists. It’s going to make us sick again. The smell becomes more intense in the evening or as soon as the sun heats it… Roads are blocked in some places,” a local cried out.

It is the same case in the Olembé neighborhood in Yaounde. The inhabitants of this area have abandoned the garbage bin because it is too full.

“The garbage bin is far away. When the garbage is poured on the ground, it chases customers. Because they can’t stay near the trash can to eat,” decried Amélie a restaurant owner.

Equinoxe television has reported that HYSACAM has been complaining about a fuel supply problem for a month, which is making it difficult for them to do their job.

The delay in the payment of wages is also a major obstacle for the employees of the sanitation company.

According to sources, employees of the company have not been paid their salaries since last October.
