Elements of the Melen Gendarmerie in Yaoundé have arrested an alleged kidnapper. The suspect called Patrick Songfack, is believed to have been arrested at a time he is said to have threatened his aunt.
The Gendarmes reveal he had told his aunt to pay in a sum of 250,000FCFA if she didn’t want him to kidnap her children for a higher ransom.
He is also said to have posed several times as a separatist fighter and demanded money from several individuals. He would also, according to Gendarmerie sources, call his family members anonymously and provide them with vital information about their kids, “… Once he notices that they have fallen into his trap, he threatens to take action if the money is not transferred to his Mobile Money account,” the Gendarmerie revealed.
The suspect is said to have been arrested after his aunt complained to the Gendarmes about the threats. He was traced through the different phone numbers he often used to call his aunt with to anonymously threaten her.
The suspect has been detained at the Melen Gendarmerie, pending further investigations to be made.
