Yaoundé: Two arrested for alleged drug trafficking in schools

At least two suspected traffickers of illicit drugs like cocaine and marijuana have been arrested in Yaoundé by elements of the Carriére Gendarmerie Brigade.

The suspects were arrested on October 6 at the College Armadin located at the Nkomkana neighborhood in Yaoundé in a raid.

A Gendarmerie source said that the area was raided following several complaints forwarded to them about a cartel specialised in the trafficking of drugs in schools.

The source also revealed that an investigation was initiated before the raid, which made them establish their target. “We raided the school compound and this led to the arrest of two individuals aged 16 and 26.” He told the Guardian Post Newspaper. “The suspects were caught in possession of several packets of tramadol.” He added.

The suspects, according to the Gendarmerie source, were caught red-handed selling narcotics to students of the school between school hours.

“We are even more determined to fight the consumption and sale of drugs of all forms within the school milieu as this said to be the main source of delinquency within school campuses.” He pledged.

The suspects meanwhile are in detention at the Gendarmerie brigade, pending further investigations.
