Yemi Alade mesmerizes audiences at AFCON opening ceremony

Nigerian music sensation Yemi Alade, fondly known as Mama Africa, took center stage at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ivory Coast during the opening ceremony of the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) this evening.

The celebrated singer’s performance was a highlight of the evening, captivating audiences with her electrifying presence.

She performed the song “Akwaba,” a recent masterpiece composed by Franco-Congolese artist Dany Synthe, featuring Yemi Alade and Mohamed Ramadan.

The song, known for its uplifting and unifying message, aligns perfectly with the spirit of AFCON, one of the most prestigious sporting events on the African continent.

The performance marked a significant moment for Yemi Alade, fulfilling a dream she had harbored since 2016 – to grace the stage of a stadium for football ceremonies, surrounded by numerous dancers and millions of spectators.

“Since 2016, I have desired to perform at the stadium for football ceremonies surrounded by 100’s of dancers and millions of people,” she said in an earlier tweet.

“7 years after, I’m performing at AFCON. It’s indeed an honor and a dream come true. It’s just the beginning! God bless my team.”

Yemi Alade’s dynamic performance, complemented by the Ivorian band Magic System, left the audience thrilled and added a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere to the opening ceremony.
