Some ringleaders of the ongoing Separatist movement in Cameroon’s North West and South West Regions have criticized Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, following his recent outing.

The Speaker of the country’s national assembly told Separatists to drop their weapons and embrace peace.

But some of those fighting for an independent state called ‘Ambazonia’ have not reacted kindly to Cavaye’s message.

Mark Bareta, a Separatist leader said the house speaker has no authority to make such a call.

“I hear the old baboon and wizard Cavaye Yeguie Djibril in his opening statement asking the forces of Ambazonia to lay down their arms and embrace peace. These colonial killers and rapists have no authority to demand anything from our people,” Bareta said.

While chairing the June session of parliament, Cavaye also described the abduction of women in Big Babanki as “unacceptable and unnecessary.”

He also urged the fighters to put an end to violence.

But Bareta says the ‘battle’ is not ending anytime soon until they make it to the finish line.

“Ambazonia forces have become more surgical and clinical and God help us we will reach the finish line,” he said.

The conflict in the English-speaking regions has never been discussed by the people’s representatives at the national assembly.

While the international community, the UN, the EU parliament, and the British parliament have held discussions on the crisis, the national assembly in Cameroon has rejected a motion tabled by the opposition to address the issues raised by the disgruntled Anglophone population.

The conflict which started in 2016 has claimed thousands of lives — and forced millions out of their homes.
