The torrential rains of Saturday, July 13, 2024, left the residents of Behind Che Neibourhood in Bamenda in a tragedy.
Esther, a child less than five years old, was swept away by swift waters near their home.
After several days of desperate searching, her body was discovered early Monday, July 15.
This incident has reignited concerns among Bamenda residents about the dangers posed by heavy rains and the fast-moving waters that often follow.
It is not the first time such a tragedy has occurred in the city.
“Parents, caregivers, and guardians should take precautionary measures to preempt such from happening in the future, given that we are still in the middle of the rainy season,” advised a concerned resident.
The community is urging heightened vigilance and proactive safety measures to protect children from similar incidents.
With the rainy season still in full swing, residents emphasize the need for increased awareness and preparedness to prevent further loss of life.
