Young people originating from Ako sub division ; Donga Mantung division in the North West region of Cameroon have been drilled to embrace entrepreneurship and limit dependency on the government and enterprises to get jobs after graduation from Schools.This was during a day seminar organized by Young Mbembe Leadership Initiative.
“Daring into entrepreneurship by young Mbembe people is not an easy task yet it is the most important thing they should do to escape the poverty line and chat a better future for themselves and the Community,” Nkwai Stephen; tuitor and an entrepreneur stated while facilitating one of the topics in the seminar.
He insisted that developing a good business plan is an essential step towards a successful business venture.
Timngum Marian Nuhwon of the National Employment Fund(NEF) expatiating on the need for career orientation to maximise chances of getting a job after graduation called on hundred of participants from Mbembe tribe to pursue their various academic trainings in areas where graduates are most needed in the job market in Cameroon and beyond.
Other areas of interest that marked the seminar include a talk on youth leadership in challenging times delivered by Mr. Nyave Yahaya Salifu, importance of digital marketing by Cedric Azeh and testimonies of hard work and success stories shared by Bar. Gbaka Ernest of Gbaka and Co Law firm,Mr. Mbe Augustine of National Employment Fund and Engineer Ebechue Emah.
Participants of Young Mbembe Leadership Initiative seminar Saturday August 7th 2021 in Yaounde expressed deep appreciation for knowledge acquired. “I feel delighted and inspired after listening to resource persons of this seminar. I have learn about creating my own job, choosing a career and most importantly key tenets on how to be a successful leader as a young person. One of the moderators talked about the Five “Ds” of leadership that is; Desire, Decision, Determination,Dedication and Discipline.” Ngbwakung Ivo Ego; teacher and aspiring entrepreneur stated.
To Nzaje Lynda another participant, the orientation of young people from Ako sub division remains a welcome initiative that will definitely have positive spill over effects on the community.
Reacting to what necessitated such an initiative, Ndoh Meme; president of Young Mbembe Leadership Initiative(YMLI) insisted on the need for young Mbembe People to work as a team to maximize success. “Our intention is to organise such leadership and orientation seminars yearly to fight unemployment and foster the development of our community. Mbembe land is blessed with natural and human resources that need to be harness to achieve the intended goal which is to improve the lives of people back home and those of us in towns and cities. In the future, we will organise such seminars in different towns including Ako town to really impact young people and give them the courage that they can survive if they are serious , discipline and God fearing”.
Mbembe tribe is in Ako sub division Donga Mantung division in the North West region of Cameroon.The geographical position of the sub division provides it with both forest and savana vegetations. This blend favours the cultivation all types of agricultural products. Ako sub division is one of the highest producer of palm oil in the North West region.
Sharing borders with Taraba state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria makes Mbembe land with a total of eighteen villages remains a busy and commercial hub that have been attracting many business men. Indigenes of the community believe that there are huge unexploited potentials that can only to develop if young people are united and Committed.
