Kembo Mohadi, Vice President of Zimbabwe has penned his resignation amidst accusation of illicit sexual relationships with women.
The politician made known the decision to the press in a statement today.
In his resignation letter, Kembo appreciated President Emerson Menangagwa for giving him a chance to serve but said he had come to the end of his time as Vice President.
“I have arrived at this decision not as a sign of cowardice but as a sign of demonstrating great respect to the office of the President…,” he said.
“I wish the President of Zimbabwe well, as he continues to bear the burden of a struggle to improve the lives of Zimbabweans, to rejoice in hope and patience, in tribulation against poverty, Covid-19 and vision 2030,” he added.
Mohadi becomes the first-ever Vice president in Zimbabwe’s history to step down. He had been caught up in a series of sex scandals that had been draining his popularity.
This was after in one of his leaked phone conservations, the official was reportedly heard inviting a lady over for unprotected sex in his office.
The scandal was a second after another with a married woman and employee of the country’s Central Intelligence Organisation, Abbigal Muleya.
It remains uncertain at the moment what the President of Zimbabwe makes of the resignation.
