The Government of Cameroon has dismissed at least 1,000 student gendarmes for possessing counterfeit documents.
The Gendarmerie personnel are accused of having presented false diplomas to be recruited.
The case is currently making headlines across media platforms in the country.
According to correspondence from the Minister Delegate in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo, more than 1,000 student gendarmes of the 2022 contingent are counterfeiters and have been laid off.
They armed forces noted that the now dismissed pupil gendarmes were kicked out “for having accessed it [the corps] with fake diplomas”
The letter from the defense boss listed the names of those affected. The long list made up 4 pages.
According to the terms of the official document widely shared on social media networks, the dismissed were asked to return to their families “without prejudice to legal proceedings.”
The scandal of false diplomas in the National gendarmerie however calls into question the reliability of those charged with crosschecking their documents upon entry.
