15-Year-old South African of Cameroon origin decorated ‘Knight of Camerooon Order of Merit’

A young South African girl born to parents of Cameroonian origin has been decorated ‘Knight of the Camerooon Order of Merit’ with distinction.

Stacey Fru, based in Johannesburg, South Africa was decorated by Cameroon’s Higher Education Minister, Jacques Fame Ndongo on behalf of the head of state, President Paul Biya.

The ceremony took place on Wednesday November 23, 2022 at the National Museum in the capital Yaounde during a ceremony of tribute and presentation of honorary distinction granted on an exceptional basis,by Cameroon’s president to female writers who won major international prizes.

Following her decoration, she was recieved in audience by Arts and Culture minister, Ismael Bidoung mpkwatt.

At the age of 15 she has distinguished herself as an author, child activist, model, philanthropist amongst others.

WHO IS STACEY FRU?

Stacey Fru is a South African born to Cameroonian parents. Born in 2007, she wrote her first book at the age of 7. The book, “Smelly Cats” was approved by the South African department of Basic education in 2015 as suitable for young learners through to primary schools.

Named Global Child Prodigy in writing, Stacey writes stories, essays, poems, speeches and also contributes articles to ‘The Cape Times’ newspaper.

Stacey now has five published books in her name which includes; Smelly Cats, written in 2015; Bob and the snake, written in 2016; Smelly Cats on vacation written in 2018; Where is Tammy ,written in 2019 and Tim’s Answer, written in 2019 as well.

Out of being an author, she has distinguished herself internationally as a child activist, model, philanthropist amongst others.

She founded Stacey Fru Foundation at the age of 9 to create awareness in addressing policy and legal issues, to campaign, for child literacy and the protection of children.

She is also founder of African Children of the year Awards which annually recognizes African children ages 7 to 13 who are contributing positively to their community.

She has spoken at many international events. The first was at Wits University in August 2016 when she was 8.

In March 2019, the president of Egypt instructed a full-length documentary that depicted Stacey as an African icon. The documentary was reportedly shot in Aswan and Nubian village in Egypt by a presidential crew.

She also spoke at The British Council Accra as well as to the entire population of learners and staff of CareGuard Montessori school in Ghana, Global Child Prodigy in India, Oxford University, UK and many others.

The young girl has won over 50 global, continental, presidential, ministerial, provencial, Media, Mayoral, heroine, academic, brand, indicia, non-governmental, parliamentary, and business wardes and recognitions.
