Many are still in shock following the death of a teacher at Lycée Techniqué de Nkolbisson in Yaounde earlier today.
The teacher, Njoni Tchakonte, a source confirms, was stabbed following a disagreement with a 15-year-old student who had failed in a Mathematics test.
Apparently angered by his poor score, the student went on to stab his teacher with the aid of a compass got from a Mathematical Set.
After much chaos, the teacher was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital but is said to have given up the ghost before anything could be done.
Senior officials at the Ministry of Secondary Education are said to have visited the school and the University Teaching Hospital where she passed away.
Today’s incident has once more brought up the discussion on how safe the teaching milieu is for teachers. Weeks back in Douala, a member of the national gendarmerie beat up a teacher for punishing his kid who was late for school.
While many say teachers should be drilled on basic survival skills, others say punishment meted on those that assault or threaten teachers is not enough.
