A mother of 20 years has lost her four children delivered Wednesday May 13th 2020 at the Yaounde Central Hospital in Cameroon.
“I was informed by the doctors when the first two babies died but they did not tell me that all the babies have died. I only discovered later” She lamented visibly feeling the pains of child birth and disappointed with workers of Yaounde Central Hospital.
According to hospital officials, the babies were delivered prematurely when all the incubators in the hospital were already occupied. They rushed to other hospitals but one health facility demanded a deposit of one hundred thousand francs cfa which the family could not afford.
In a tweet Thursday May 14th 2020, Cameroon’s Minister of Public Health denied social media rumours that the young mother was retained in the hospital to pay delivery bills before being discharged. Dr. Manaouda Malachie in the tweet says, “the young mother was held back for proper medical observations”.
As a woman lost her four babies less than twenty four hours after delivery in Yaounde Cameroon, statistics show that at least 22000 babies and 4000 mothers die in Cameroon yearly in the course of child birth.
