A fire outbreak last night devastated the home of Boma Christopher, the former Regional Delegate of Basic Education and Proprietor of St. Andrews Teachers Training College in Bamenda.
The fire, which sparked off around 6:30 pm, consumed the entire storey building located on Foncha Street, leaving behind extensive destruction.
Fortunately, no human casualties were reported. According to an eyewitness from the neighbourhood, Mr. Boma and other occupants of the house, including tenants who lived on the lower floor, managed to escape unharmed.
Among the occupants was a visually impaired man, all of whom lost their belongings to the inferno.
Despite efforts, nothing could be done to save the property or its contents.
“The firefighters were notified early, but they were unresponsive and only arrived about an hour later. People had to rush to the nearest police station to alert the authorities,” the eyewitness told MMI.
While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, a short circuit is suspected.
Reports say some cables in the building caught fire after electricity, which had been out, was restored with a high voltage.
This incident comes just two days after another major fire consumed a spice factory in Old Town, Bamenda.
