Some parts of Bamenda headquarters of the North West region have been under military raids this Sunday September 8, 2024.
Local sources confirmed to MMI that Nitop , Nobel man , old church and Mbengwi road neighbourhoods have been under siege
Security forces according to our sources descended on these neighborhoods since 4am Sunday.
“Just at poultry Street beside the Catholic Church, they have held some citizens because of identity cards,” a source told MMI.
Most people heading to church had their programs altered as the road behind the Bamenda Regional Hospital Mortuary was blocked by elements of the mobile intervention unit of police.
The administration has not advanced any reasons for the security raid.
There is tension in Bamenda as elsewhere in the crisis stricken Anglophone regions as new school year is expected to kick off on Monday September 9.
Armed separatists fighting to create a state called Ambazonia had declared a two weeks lockdown in the two regions beginning Monday September 9 to frustrate school resumption.
The two weeks lockdown has been criticized across the board as an impediment to the education of children.
