After seven years of waiting, the people of Pinyin, in the North West Region, have welcomed their new paramount ruler, HRM Fon Khanmechi III, with a mix of pride and hope for a brighter future.

The presentation ceremony marked by traditional drumming and vibrant cultural displays, took place under the guidance of the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh, who officially introduced the new Fon to the community.

The SDO emphasized the importance of peace and unity, urging the new Fon to prioritize development within the Kingdom.

“I have asked the new paramount Fon to restore peace and unity in his Fondom, and do his best to bring development in this fondom, which is one of the biggest Fondom in the whole North West Region,” the SDO stated.

Indigenes expressed optimism that this new chapter could finally address long-standing challenges such as poor roads, lack of potable water, and an unreliable electricity supply.

The President of the Pinyin Development Association, Akamantso Tamungan Eugene, spoke about the community’s efforts to improve infrastructure, despite recent political hurdles.

“With the help of our elites, we had secured some funds to tar the road from Matazem to Bali and to Guzang.

“On three occasions the caterpillars have come but work did not start due to the political crisis. With the coming of our new Fon, I think things are going to go well,” Eugene said.

The new Fon’s arrival has also sparked discussions on tackling pressing social issues.

Grace Ngwafor, a daughter of Pinyin, voiced the need for urgent action on social ills such as child trafficking and gender-based violence.

“We have a lot of child trafficking and gender-based violence in this village; those are some of the pressing issues we will be addressing with our new Fon,” Ngwafor noted.

HRM Fon Khanmechi III, a retired journalist, is expected to usher in an era of sustainable peace and inclusive development.

The people of Pinyin, now more united than ever, look forward to seeing tangible changes under their new leader’s guidance.

The hope is that his leadership will not only foster development but also create a safer and more prosperous society for all.
