The municipal councillor of the Progressive Movement party ( with French acronym, MP) for Douala 1, Hilaire Zipang, has declared that the party president’s decision to support Paul Biya was personal.
He made this declaration on a Sunday debate program, “Droit de Reponse”, on Equinoxe Television. The fire brand opposition councillor said Ekindi’s decision had nothing to do with the party.
Hilaire Zipang told his co-panelist that the MP party is still battling with other presidential candidates of the opposition to come up with a consensual candidate to put an end to Paul Biya’s 36-year leadership at the helm of the presidency in Cameroon.
Hilaire Zipang’s outing is a clear indication that the decision of Jean Jacque Ekindi to support Biya candidacy was not unanimous.
Ekindi who has spent decades criticising the Biya regime suddenly announced on Thursday that Paul Biya is the ideal candidate amongst the 9 presidential hopefuls.
The President of MP was for over 26 years referred to as ” the Hunter of the Lion” before his transformation on 20th September 2018 into “Friend of the Lion”.
Another critic of the regime and former SDF supporter, Albert Elimbi Lobe, has called on Cameroon not to vote for any opposition candidate.
Elimbi Lobe, who neither expressed support for Biya, said the opposition candidates have to be punished for refusing to form a coalition.
