The family of Mr Anawfor Francis Funui who few days ago announced his disappearance says he has returned home. They say Anawfor was released by his suspected Ambazonian fighters who kidnapped him on February 20th 2020. “We paid CFAF 150.000 (228Euros) to secure his release,” said a relative. Mr Anawfor Francis from Tubah subdivision who resides in Ntah quarter in Bambili is also a bike rider popularly called “5th commandment” or “Man lives by man”.
Residents in Fungom in Menchum of the North West region of Cameroon are now seeking refuge in bushes after state forces stormed the area Monday. “The military accompanied by the government-sponsored vigilante group members stormed the place and killed tens of people,” the source said adding that “The issue is some rich elites wanted to buy land from the peasant farmers and when they refused, they use the military to eliminate them”. It is not known the exact number of people killed. Mobile phones of villagers were also seized.
The Constitutional Council has cancelled legislative elections in some constituencies in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon. According to Barrister Njeje Valentine, the Constitutional Council today ruled out that insecurity marred voting in the areas hit by conflict on the 9th of February during the twin polls. The Constituencies are in the Mezam, Lebialem, Momo, Ngohketunja and Menchum Divisions
Denise Fampou has been reelected Mayor of Douala 2 Council. This will be her second mandate at the helm of the Council since 2013. Meantime, Mborong Vanetius has been elected Mayor of the Kumbo Council in the North West region of Cameroon. He will have the task of running the council at the heart of insecurity caused by separatists and soldiers in the area.
The Muyuka council has a new mayor in the person of Landnjinou Lazare. The election took place Tuesday at the Muyuka Council Hall was chaired by Emmanuel Engamba Ledoux, Fako SDO. The SDO urged the new team to give the destroyed and abandoned Muyuka subdivision a new facelift.
Dr Mobi Mpah Edouard is the New Mayor of the Douala IV Council, in the Littoral region of Cameroon. He was voted this morning in Bonaberi, by 21 councillors, as opposed to 20 for his lone challenger and outgoing Mayor, Koum Arnord Federick Elangue.

Guinea-Bissau’s National Electoral Commission is to recount the votes from the second round of the presidential election that took place on 29 December. The commission will today convene permanent and non-permanent members of the National Electoral Commission, as well as the representatives of President-elect Umaro Sissoco Embaló and Domingos Simões Pereira. The electoral body said Mr Embaló had won 54% of the votes against Mr Pereira’s 46%.
Zimbabwe has been barred from hosting any international matches until further notice after its main stadiums failed to meet required standards.
