Coronavirus in Cameroon: government unveils security measures, hotline

Three government ministers; Health, Livestock and Communication have held a joint press conference in Yaounde on the situation of Coronanavirus in Cameroon. So far, two people have been infected according to the government.

During the meeting Saturday March 7th 2020, the Minister of Communication, Public Health and Lifestock and Fisheries said:

-Hotline to call in case of any health related incidents or complications: 1510
-There should be no panic for now
-Cameroon can contain coronavirus

-We have 45 investigation teams in the centre region and 70 others all tracing contacts of the two confirmed cases – Dr. Manaouda Malachie, Public Health Minister

-We will be stricter at airports, seaport and at all the borders. People will be required to leave their contacts, and residence with the health team at the airport. The Head of the Health District will monitor them and their contacts – Dr. Manaouda Malachie

-Medical team’s have been put in place at the airports, hospitals. Isolation centre have also been stationed in these services including the Laquintinie and Centre Hospitals in Yaounde.

-Coronavirus outbreak is a lesson to all of us that, what befalls our neighbour, should also be our problem. There should be solidarity to combat the disease everywhere around the world, Rene Emmanuel Sadi, Minister of Communication.

-We need our international partners now than before, including the media, we need them to act as mediators between government and the population. We will put in place a communication plan to relay vital information to the public.

-We salut efforts put in place by the public health ministry. Government will combat the virus, there is no cause for alarm.
